Renee Sorbet
A friendly girl named Renee Sorbet
sat on the dock of the bay all day
and soaked in waves and warm sun rays
every single Saturday in May.
She'd bring her friend Janay Beret
every once and a while to stay and play
They'd pick a bouquet of wondrous array
and deem it okay or too passe.
They'd take pretend trips to Bombay and Monterey
never mentioning pay or Daddy's IRA
only the ocean's spray and puppet plays
Oh how they loved every Saturday in May.
I Like Stuff
I like so much stuff
it could be smooth or rough
it could be ticking or tocking
be still or rocking
a shoe or a stocking
anything gentle or tough
It could be a tree
a giraffe or a flea
a small piece of grass
or a great football pass
a wet soggy morass
it could even be me
It could be all wet
a loud turbo jet
an old faded picture
a brand new home fixture
a complex mixture
a person I've never met
It could be a ball
or a big shopping mall
a dinosaur fossil
tiny or colossal
sipping hot homemade wassail
it could be nothing at all
It could be a string
or a gold wedding ring
a gray cowboy boot
or a business man's suit
this is all rather moot
because I like everything.
Rainy Day
What kind of Summer day is this?!
When rain and winds insist to persist!
The rain won’t stop its ploppy plop
Its drippy drip or sopping sop.
I want to play outside today
But can’t because the sky’s too gray
Everything’s wet, there’s no sun yet
And there won’t be til’ tomorrow I bet.
I’m grumpy now, and bored to tears
And afraid this rain will go on for years
No more tag or live punching bag
No more football or baseball or capture the flag.
I’ll never see the Sun again
Maybe for a second every now and then
But never long enough to do fun stuff
like marbles, or army, getting a scuff.
I guess it’s over, finito, caput
No more running around in the grass barefoot
What’s that you say? I can still play today?
I’ll get my boots, you get my coat, okay?
I love the rain and all it brings
I like wet, soggy, and sopping things
I slide when I run, these puddles are fun
No rain tomorrow, huh? Lots of Sun?
Oh well…I’ll just get out my water gun.
